FAQ

What should I do first in the Outskirts?
Follow the train wiring to the External Module, install the battery, return to the train, and raise the pantograph to restore power.
Do I have to complete the Attendant before Depot?
No. The Attendant is a nearby side objective and can remain unfinished while the communication chain advances.
How do I pass the ticket-booth turret?
Stop moving when the turret orders you to Freeze. Treat it as a movement check instead of a combat encounter.
How do I know the Outskirts main route is complete?
After Antenna Debris 0/2 is completed, New Coordinates appears. Follow that destination until the area label changes to DEPOT.

Why should the crashed train come before nearby markers?

The train provides storage, crafting, recovery, and the equipment wardrobe. Restoring it first makes every failed search cheaper.

Craft the first useful tool with the nearby Metal, then follow the orange wiring away from the train to the External Module. Install its battery and return rather than continuing deeper into the wreckage. At the train, raise the pantograph when prompted.

Power thaws nearby systems and turns the opening area into a usable hub. The Chapter 1 walkthrough uses this as the first major checkpoint.

How should you stabilize food and water?

Repair the food equipment and kettle before optional machinery consumes the same components. The documented launch route produced three bottles of water from one Ice-processing cycle, but keep part of the Ice stack untouched because oxygen systems also compete for it.

The goal is predictability, not a full storage box. Prepare enough food and water for the next route, then protect Electronics, Wires, and Electrical Tape for infrastructure that moves progression.

Which objectives advance the Outskirts story?

Return to the interphone and communication chain. The journal will accumulate optional repairs and side tasks, but the damaged antenna, homemade beacon, government probe, and later debris objective form the route that eventually produces a new destination.

Pin the current communication job and reopen the journal after each device begins working. Several antenna-related objectives can coexist even though they refer to different hardware. The antenna and debris guide separates each step.

How do you handle the ticket-booth turret?

When the turret says Freeze, stop moving. Trying to sprint through its fire wastes health on a mechanic that does not need to become a fight.

Once the booth is usable, an old ticket can be exchanged for a token. Vending-machine supplies are useful backup, but they are not a replacement for stabilizing the train’s food loop.

When should you repair the Public Oxygen Station?

Repair it before the objectives begin pulling you into long searches. The station creates a refill point outside the train and lets you chain multiple Outskirts jobs together.

Collect the required materials before leaving, preserve some Ice, and avoid spending the final Electrical Tape on convenience repairs. See the oxygen guide for the exact documented repair cost, Oxyworms, and portable refills.

Is the Attendant required for the main route?

No. Her body and head are relatively easy to collect near the train, but the arm is small and can consume more search time than the side objective is worth during early progression.

Finish the assembly when the route is convenient. If the arm is the blocker, use the Attendant parts guide and search the small bridge near blue machinery and three orange balls.

How do you cross the cold gate?

When the journal says Raise Cold Protection to 100, return to the Space Suit wardrobe at the train. Equip insulation across the body slots until the displayed total reaches at least 100.

Do not use portable oxygen as a substitute for insulation. Oxygen and temperature are independent limits. The cold protection guide includes a launch-build sample setup and the penalties to check.

What ends the Station Outskirts route?

Late in the communications chain, complete Collect Antenna Debris 0/2 around the antenna structure above the Attendant bridge. After both narrow metal parts are placed, New Coordinates Detected appears.

Follow the new destination until the map identifies DEPOT. Optional Outskirts markers may remain, but the main story has crossed a regional boundary. Continue with the Depot walkthrough instead of searching the starting station for another mandatory antenna.
